Our First Date

It wasn’t an awkward first date. Since we worked together for almost 3 years, we knew each other pretty well. We hanged out outside of work a few times and went on a couple of unofficial dates like motorcycle rides and ice cream. So after one of those unofficial dates, Michael finally asked me out. My reaction could’ve been better! I said “okay” or “sure” and shut the door…which left Michael somewhat dumbfounded…but no, there was actually a small talk between my “sure” and shutting the door!
Next Saturday evening, Michael came to pick me up for our date. He brought me a rose. I couldn’t let him into the house because my dog would’ve literally eaten him 🙂 So I grabbed the rose, said “I’ll be out in a minute” and shut the door! Again! Haha! When I finally came out, he complimented my look and we headed to the car. On the way to the restaurant, Michael kept asking me if what he was wearing was okay… I thought that was a little weird…What if I said no?
While we were waiting for our dinner Michael was talking about his new job and showing me a few photos on his phone. He was so excited about starting that job so he kept talking and talking and talking….I think he was nervous. So was I. Luckily we have similar professional background so at least I could understand what he was saying. Finally, dinner arrived just when a violin musician started playing one of my favorite songs, “Love Story” by Francis Lai, and we could finally change the topic of our conversation. To music. Honestly, I don’t remember what we chatted about the rest of the evening but I am pretty sure some of it included cryogenic plant and natural gas processing talk…
After the dinner, we had some time to kill before the movie so went on a walk on Caperton trail by the river and…we waltz. Why? Here is a little back story. A week earlier we attended our friend’s wedding where we danced together and somehow I mentioned that I used to ballroom dance in high school. Whaaat? Yeah, I did. I am not a big fan of dancing, nor am I a good dancer, but… I think Michael was trying to impress me, so he watched some waltz tutorials online. And there we were, waltzing on the trail! Or at least trying! If you asked him now, he would say that he was teaching me how to waltz, but the truth is, it was the other way around. Later that evening we watched the movie “Blended” which was a very cute first date movie. The entire time at the movie theater I was thinking “is he going to hold my hand is he going to hold my hand?” But he didn’t which was a little disappointed.
We spent the rest of the night on the side porch of my house talking. And waltzing some more. That’s where he asked me to be his girlfriend. That’s where we shared our first kiss. And that’s where I knew that if it ever comes to him asking me to marry him, I would say yes. If you know it, you know it right?!
